C4BB4C investigated how on-demand cloud infrastructure could serve the burst-compute needs of bioinformatics and life-sciences research.
Objective
Genomic analysis and protein folding simulations require large amounts of compute capacity for short periods. Traditional HPC clusters often cannot provide this elastically. C4BB4C used OpenNebula-based cloud deployments to give researchers self-service access to scalable compute pools.
Collaboration
The project involved researchers at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and partner institutions including the University of Stuttgart. Workflow orchestration built for this project contributed back to the broader OpenNebula ecosystem.
